About the Author
An Accidental Writer ~ Writing was a tool, not a toy, until a stay in a haunted hotel. Howling wind and creaking floors sent Becca to a bookcase full of dog-eared romances. Fascination swept away sleeplessness. Hooked, she read old romances, new romances, both sexy and sweet, until her own tales begged to be written. Living in Florida, Becca divides her time between dreaming up stories, diving deep into history, kayaking, and swimming. Her husband gives her the space she needs by fishing mangroves and waterways, or watching football (the English sort) with his British buddies. Becca and her hubby break the routine with adventure travel; though, at heart, Becca is a homebody believing there is no greater playground than inside the mind.

review of an independent miss

This is my second book that I have read by Ms. Becca St. John and still is really good! The first book I read was a Scottish historical romance and this was a regency but equally as wonderful. In fact this book is written in reverse it seems as opposed to both the male and female protagonist falling in love the male protagonist decides to marry first then make the female protagonist fall for him. Her stories are amazingly full with character rich players that you really can’t help but be entranced and pulled into the story as well! Now this story had no sex in it but that isn’t to say there is no heat, lots of kissing or strong sexual verbal bantering which left much up to the reader’s imagination. Sometimes it is nice to read books like this and it seems more authentic to the time period.
Lady Felicity a secret healer is happiest taking care of others and knowing more than the present day doctors but must hide her true self unfortunately Lord Richard Carmichael Marquis of Andover wants a quiet life and decides that Felicity is the perfect match for him asking her parents to a betrothal. What happens when Andover figures out the truth about Felicity and the possibility that Andover also could be in love with her.
What made this an interesting intriguing read was really the Lady Felicity. I loved her smarts, intelligence, quick wit, humor, caring compassionate nature. Felicity reminded me of a fictional version of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell but being in the healthcare profession made me appreciate Felicity that much more! Even though Felicity was pretty unconventional she still follows the societal norms. I guess that is what really irritated me about Lord Andover that he was scared of her ability as a healer and that she actually knew more as a male. He didn’t really acknowledge Felicity or her knowledge of medicine I think the only things that Andover had going for him was his loyalty to his mother and that he was wanting to do right by Felicity except until Felicity helped him. I just loved the story so much that I also wanted Felicity’s brother Thomas to find someone that Lady Beatrice ends up with Lord Upton and Robbie finds someone nice. I do hope that Ms. St John will write more about these characters that I rated the story four stars can recommend it for any regency romance reader and will get more books from Ms. St John!

Stick with it...

I like both the H & h, but there was way too much time wasted getting to the point, so to speak. I found myself skimming through the last half of the book to kill the desire to abandon it altogether, which I never do. Glad I finished it though, the conclusion was ALMOST worth the wait.

I truly enjoyed the story

I truly enjoyed the story. Lady Felicity's character was wonderfully described. I can't help but wonder about my two favorite lines in the book:
1. Mourning the loss of a loved one held no clock, no sense of propriety. It hit when it chose to hit and damned be the man who scorned it.
2. They would expect her to be stoic, to carry on and ignore the loss of all that love.
People who grieve the loss of a loved one would appreciate those two lines.
But the book was not all about loss...I just liked the fact that the author covered grief well.
Good story. I hope we hear more about some of the other characters in the book...Rupert and Bea.
