Great concept, but marred by weak romance plot

The flooded post-apocalyptic world and idea of ferrying souls to the afterlife caught my interest, but ultimately this book wasn't for me. The predominant storyline is a romance, and really, romance is the wrong word because it mostly consists of juvenile exclamations in the vein of he's so hot/she's so hot/wow, look at her bend over! And why is the heroine conversing with work colleagues while topless? Just weird, and not enough focus on building the characters and relationship beyond superficial attraction to make me care about whether the leads get together (not that there's much question about that). I would have preferred a story centered directly on the more interesting Charon plot. The author's Guards of the Shadowlands series had the same trouble (great concept overshadowed by a shallow and uninteresting love story), so perhaps this writer is just not for me. For readers who like the Shadowlands series, this book is more of the same and will probably be a good choice. On the positive side, the writing is skillful enough, the world-building is really well done, and the secondary characters are fairly rounded.

More of the "you gotta get the next one" genre of novels

Pros: The quality of the writing (and proofreading) meant that I wasn't distracted from the story by bad grammar, spelling, or other irritants like so many digital reads. The story deftly created a world based on ours, but with interesting differences and let you learn those differences as you read (i.e. didn't just announce them in definition) - very nicely done.
Cons: The mystery was well developed and tangled, but you knew early on that this was Book 1 of a series and that the story would be incomplete; this was simply the first installment. I don't mind series, but prefer that each episode stand alone. I hate being sold a novel only to be "forced" to buy the next one to get the full story. Sex. Now I enjoy sex, and sex scenes in my novels, but I don't need 5 pages of detailed descriptions for every encounter between the lovers - I found these unnecessary to the story and wished I could get more about the actual relationships and politics of the characters instead. The sex felt like wasted words used to match some artificial outline (1.Intro, 2.Protagonists Meet, 3.Set-up Tension, 4.Insert Sex Scene, 5...)
Bottom Line: Much as I enjoyed the use of mythical archetypes and the world concepts created here, and wish I could stay immersed in them, I categorically refuse to be "forced" into buying the next installment. Give me the whole story in one novel. If there are spin-offs and tangential story lines, make them available in follow up novels, but make each one stand alone! Marked ended at a point where I was surprised to find myself reading the first chapter of the next installment - I'd "turned the page" expecting to finish THIS story.

This new adult, dystopian, urban fantasy is a good start to the series

Marked, the first book in the Servants of Fate series was the first book I have read by Sarah Fine. It was recommended by an author, who had read an ARC. It’s an urban fantasy, Greek mythology, mystery, NEW ADULT dystopian. It has most of my favorite genres. So I one-clicked it with my Amazon Prime Kindle First early release preview.

Something has happened in the United States and everything is a mess. Pittsburgh is a desert and Boston, where our story takes place, is a booming city that is more like Venice with waterway streets. Don’t go in the water though! It’s polluted and infested with disease. Cacy Ferry and her family, the Ferry’s, is part of the upper elite of Boston. The Ferry’s are also help people’s souls when they die go to heaven or hell.

The story is told from duel POV. Cacy works for the ambulance service where is gets a new partner, Eli Margolis from Pittsburgh. There is instant attraction between them. Cacy has had a no relationship policy for three year. But the more she tries to stay away from Eli, the more she is drawn to him. Eli just wants to help cope with what is going on but gets mixed messages from her.

The world that Fine has created is unique and brilliant. I wanted to know some more back story on how the US got to this dystopian. I thought it might help me understand the characters better. It is not necessary to enjoy the book though.
I usually like to have a relationship develop over time in books. Cacy and Eli’s instant connection works for me. We do have Fates involved after all. Cacy has been dealt a lot in her life. A loss of her mother, working as an EMT and helping the dead to heaven or hell does can cause some baggage. She is a strong character and does what needs to be done. Importantly, she eventually grows to learn to accept help. Eli has had to deal with a lot of loss in his life. I like that he is a balanced MALE character. Many times male leads are too alpha for my taste. Eli, while strong and protective, is caring and sensitive. He is not smothering. They work well together as a couple.

Overall the pacing of the book is good. The story was well written. You were never sure who you could trust. The ending is good and well thought out. I have already pre-ordered Claimed, the second book in the Servants of Fate series. I also plan on checking out her other works.

The Old West has never been more fun!

Determined to put her past to rest and embrace her new life as a graduate of Miss Hattie's School for the Refinement of Young Ladies, Lucinda Sharpe heads west to become a school teacher. Little does she know it's not Reese McAdams who invites her to the town of Dickshooter in Idaho Territory, it is six soiled doves in The Comfort Palace who are determined to rise above the cards they've been dealt in this life. The moment Lucinda steps off the stage coach, the fun begins. The women embrace their lessons with the same fervor as they do throwing Lucinda and Reese together. What follows is a fast-paced plot with twists and turns, humorous moments and a deeper, poignant look at how the past can shape a person's future.

Rogers' talent shines as she creates a stunning portrait of what it was like to live in the old west. Her characters leap off the page and she handles humor with as much skill as she does the deeper emotions. MUCH ADO ABOUT MADAMS was a fabulous read. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the Much Ado series.

Fun read, made me laugh more than once

Enjoyable read, funny lines. Not a masterpiece, but an entertaining afternoon read. Great character development throughout, free-flowing storyline. I would recommend it as a fluffy read.

Interesting plot

Okay, I read the book. Then I read the reviews. There is no way I would give this book 5 stars. I honestly would have given it 2, but the humor and remarks of the minor characters, although they tend to be more bold than the main ones, I felt gave it an extra star. I was a bit disappointed that there was not more details to the feelings of the intimate moments. Having never read any of Rogers works previously, that may just be her style. I guess, considering the working girls and men's comments back and forth, there just would have been a little more about the moments Lucinda and Reese share. I would recommend this book for a funny read, but not as a romantic read.

SPOILER ALERT:

I was disappointed that the book did not ever let the working girls and Reese know about the finances they had. Won't say more than that.

Great Opposites Attract Romance!

This steamy story tells of the romance between Tabitha and Drew. A bad accident 5 years earlier has affected Drew deeply and makes him rigid and controlled in his approach to life. Tabitha is the opposite of everything he is - fun loving, exuberant, daring Drew to let loose and be the man he used to be. When a business arrangement between them leads to some bedroom fun and games, Drew tries to keep the upper hand but as Tabitha invades his home, she also invades his heart. But when Tabitha goes one step too far in her efforts to help Drew overcome his past, will Drew let her in all the way or shut her out completely?

I really loved this book! I enjoyed Drew's character very much - handsome, athletic (I admit, as a runner I love characters that race as well so that was definitely part of his appeal for me), trying so hard to maintain control in all aspects of his life and falling for Tabitha and her quirkiness at the same time. Tabitha too was an engaging character, full of life, an extrovert in her dealings with everyone including Drew. In her lust for life she makes mistakes, and sometimes these mistakes cost her, but she knows when to admit she is wrong too. I loved the two of them together, the snappy comebacks, the sizzling chemistry that leads them into each other's arms. Opposites definitely attract and this is well established here. The love scenes were steamy and well written, drawing them to each other despite their misgivings on how a future between them would possibly work. I liked the secondary characters in this story too, friends and co-workers of the couple who added great dialogue and friendships to round out the story. Overall I found this to be a fun, entertaining read with characters that interested me, a plot that engaged me, and a love story that was sweet, sexy and satisfying. 5 stars!

Naughty and Humorous

This was the first time for me reading this author but liked what it said it was about. I liked right away the two characters-Tabitha and Andrew or Drew ask he is often referred to. This is a saucy little number that provided immense enjoyment filled with humor and with the makeover involving more than just a change of clothes. Their battle of the wills entertaining yet they know how to derive satisfaction from each other. Funny to is they have both met their match when they agree to certain things but those things will turn on them making them actually perfect for each other. The right amount of flame is turned on to go with the storyline. I so enjoyed the little thing her and her friend also have going on between them that the friend will use to her advantage so Tabitha will actually get her way perfectly.

Didn't like/love the characters.

When I read Nina Crespo’s debut novella, Take me if You Dare, the first book in her Birthday Dare Series, I couldn’t wait to read more from her and see what else she had in store for the series. Unfortunately, Naughty Little Wishes did not live up to its predecessor. I HATED Tabitha from the very beginning. Yes, hate is a very strong word but it applies to her. Because of her, I found the book hard to read.

Tabitha Drake is a personal stylist who travels the country, taking people’s closets apart and giving them a new look. I won’t deny that she’s good at her job. My problem is that she thinks she always right and that she can do whatever the heck she wants. News flash, she’s not always right and she doesn’t understand or seem to care that her actions have consequences.

Andrew Bode is co-founder and CEO of Bode-Wynn, a private security firm. Yes, he’s young. Yes, he’s rigid and set in his ways. But a past tragedy has made him so. In all honesty, my like of Andrew is what boasted my review of this book up.

Nina definitely stepped up the heat level from the first book, but failed when it came to the characters. But with that said, I’m still looking forward to reading more books from her and this series.

Cord is the Mr. Laramie model in the world of western clothing. He loses his contract when he refuses the sexual advances of his boss and finds himself playing a mall Santa. He is also a former bull rider and has not been home in the three years he started modeling and is seriously thinking about trying to return home. Hope is a socialite and a photographer. She loses everything, her fiance, her family support, and her job after a mistake at a wedding. She is Santa's helper at the mall taking the pictures. Both are fed up with their situations and plot together to to fix their under employed situations. Cord does not know what has been happening at his family's ranch and steps in to help his family with Hope by his side.

Hot and steamy scenes between Cord and Hope. Both of them have plans to help each other and Cord's family and agree to keep their hearts. Spending time getting to know one another may change all of that, but neither one of them is willing to admit their true feelings.

I received this book as gift from the author to read. This was the first Becky McGraw book I have ever read. She is an excellent author and I am glad to add her to my new authors and her books as well.

I have not read a cowboy book in a long time and this one help jump start me into wanting to read more. Hope For Christmas was a nice little Novella. I usually prefer longer books because I am never ready for the story to end. And this books was another added to the list that I was just not ready to end. I admit it I wanted more. :)

These two happen to meet at the mall when Cord is working as a mall santa when he has been let go from model jeans because he choose not to sleep with the owners daughter. And he runs in to Hope who is the elf taking pictures of Santa with kids. A plan to make some extra money and even a score to get even with Laramie they decide to have some of Cord rodeo friends come and make a calendar for Christmas at Cords family ranch.He is not really welcome there considering he run out on all of them. Once home on the ranch he is not really welcome by his brother. But there is way more going on.

I do not want to give it all away so go ahead and check this book out and read it. It is worth it :)

Cord is a sexy cowboy/model who has lost his job & his way home. His agent finds him a Santa gig for Christmas, ugh! Not exactly where he thought he would be when he turned down his bosses sexual advances! Enter his new Christmas Elf. Hope has lost her business, fiancé & her family over a mistake. Hope & Cord are miserable with their lives and come up with a way to help each other. A Cowboy Calendar, with his rodeo buddies & his homestead ranch. Cord hasn't been home in the three years since he left, tensions are high & the ranch is crumbling! Hope makes a deal to marry Cord & get her inheritance to help with Cords fathers illness & repairs to the ranch. What happens when two people who aren't looking for love, make a deal not to fall in love? Read on, you won't be disappointed. This story was a great read with plenty of pent up frustration & a lot of getting to know one another!

I absolutely loved this series

If I could give it an eleven I would. I absolutely loved this series. The author is amazing. I could not put any of the books down. When done with the series checked to see it there were more. I downloaded the last 3. Started book 7, hated to but it down but had to go to a party. Can't wait to get back to it.

The first 3 books were great. The last 3 seemed more like novellas. Short and endings seemed rushed upon. I like the stories and how they tied together.

Sad to say Good-bye

Age Appropriate For: 16 and up for some violence and romance

After finishing three of these books in a matter of a week, I was eagerly looking forward to the last instilment of this series. By the time I finished, it was sad to say goodbye. I have really come to love the McKenna family and wish there were more adventures to come. However, the series wrapped up everything nicely in the end.

One of the things I have come to really love about Pettrey’s stories is that she tackles some really hard issues without going into so much detail as to horrify the reader, but also doesn’t gloss it over. That is a hard balance, especially with the topic in this book, but she manages. It is always hard to read about someone else’s pain.

Neither Reef or Kirra were my favorite characters, nor did I feel especially close to them. Yet, their story drew me in. I think that Pettrey’s strength is that she draws the reader into the story, no matter how they feel about the characters. My favorite part of the whole story has to be Jack trying to propose to his girl, but he keeps being interrupted.

Out of all the series, this had to be the strongest mystery. Some of the others had some holes, but this one was pretty tight, and felt more suspenseful. It kept me flipping pages and made the ending highly satisfying.

The romance was not my favorite of the McKenna’s, and I thought one of the romantic scenes at the beginning was a bit dumb, but it quickly got better. Pettrey did a great job of showing her characters as being committed to purity, without preaching about it.

The faith element in this story also seemed stronger than it had in any of the other stories. Understanding why God allows bad things to happen, how He helps us to heal, and trusting again were all covered in a very strong and powerful way.

I highly recommend this book to those who liked any of the other books in the Alaskan Courage series, those who like mysteries, and anyone who enjoys romance.

A fantastic finale!

Wow! What an ending to a fantastic series!

I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to read and review Sabotaged, especially as I finish up these last few busy months of college. That said, I am a huge fan of the McKenna family and I am extremely sad to say goodbye. I've enjoyed all five books spent with each McKenna member and I'm thrilled that they each have their own "happily ever after." There is a certain bond that forms through spending a series of books with a fictional family. They grow on you. You learn their quirks, their fears... You become that invisible family member that laughs and cries alongside them.

That all having been said, this installment of the series is a wonderful farewell. From page one you're immediately thrust into the action and mystery. The thrill of the adventure is just where it starts. The tender, growing friendship-turned-romance between Reef and Kirra is sweet and not overdone. Pettrey will keep you on your toes, making you second guess everything until the closing chapters. It's a perfect thriller/mystery for the suspense crowd, yet not so intense to drive away the romance fans. For those who have read the prior books, you won't be disappointed!! And for new fans, I encourage you to read Submerged as soon as possible, whether that means before or after reading Sabotaged.

I can easily recommend this book for both readability and content to young adults, 17 and older. The fun of reading this book is really increased if you have read the previous novels/adventures but it is not necessary and the novel can stand alone. Happy reading!!

A great end to the series

And so ends the Alaskan Courage Series - and what a fitting end it is. Reef and Kirra, thrown together as a SAR support team, find themselves in the midst of a kidnapping. Determined to find her cousin and help her uncle, Kirra is surprised when Reef offers her his help to stop the unfolding tragedy.

I had to stop and catch my breath after the first chapter. This book is jam packed with action. If you're a lover of Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series (as I am) you will already know that Sabotaged is a must read. For those of you that haven't yet come across the series, then know if you love romance, action, suspense and drama all wrapped up in the glorious scenery of Alaska and with the added bonus of a big family of siblings to follow through adventures and love, then you need to get reading. You could read the books out of sequence as each story is complete in its own right, but some of the stories are introduced in the previous books, so reading the books chronologically would certainly make it easier to keep up with the characters and backstories. In any case, it's worth it to read them all.

The story jumps very quickly into the action and starts out feeling a little choppy as we switch points of view from Reef and Kirra, to the rescuers and then to the bad guys. As the story develops, the action is fleshed out a little and I loved seeing the interactions between past characters, particularly Kayden and Jake. The suspense is edge of your seat stuff and keeps at a fair pace through the entire book. Reef and Kirra are swoon-worthy. I loved Kirra's struggle with her past and Kirra really is the focus, with Reef having sorted some of his issues in the last book (I did mention Reef is gorgeously handsome, sensitive, kind and playful, right? Sigh). The romance starts right from the beginning, although it was alluded to in book four. Given that Reef and Kirra have been friends/rivals/enemies since kindergarten the relationship never feels rushed and makes for some sweet moments throughout the story. Sabotage is a great conclusion to the series, and while I am sad to see the last of the McKennas, I can't wait to see what's next for Dani Pettrey.

Jenna is not your girl next door. She is far from innocent and sweet. She uses men for one purpose and one purpose only. Men are just an outlet to have an orgasm and it’s always on her terms. Jenna is always in control and never does a repeat performance. She is self-employed and is good at what she does (she’s a computer tech). Jenna is pierced, tattooed, with blue dyed hair. Not what you would say your average computer tech would look like at all!

I loved her character in the sense that MS Parker gave us enough of a peak into her past to make her very intriguing. I want to know more about her. There’s obviously something very dark there and causes her to keep her distance from many things when it comes to the opposite sex.

Now Rylan comes into the pictures and puts everything inside Jenna to the ultimate test. He is a young billionaire that hired her to help with his company. The attraction was immediate and neither could deny it. However, there was something about Rylan that scared her and she fought his advances with everything inside her. I enjoyed Rylan’s character and cannot wait to see where the series will take us with these two.

I am addicted to MS Parker’s writing style and I love her characters and stories. This book is no exception. I highly recommend getting this prequel and get ready for her new series! Go 1-click!

An amazing continuation to Nick and Daisy's story!

I normally don't go for novellas because they are never satisfying to me, but that is not the case with this book! I absolutely loved this story! We revisit Nikolai and Daisy after their HEA from the first book in the series, 'Last Hit', to find them both enrolled in college. Nick, being a retired Assassin, is trying to blend in and hide in plain site while Daisy is yearning to make friends. Daisy is such a loving and compassionate person but she feels like she is awkward and incompetent with her classmates. She tries repeatedly to fit in and make friends with disastrous results. Daisy finally makes a friend who has secrets of her own but Nick does not trust her or want Daisy being around her. I love how ardent he is to protect Daisy but lets her have freedom and control, against his better judgement, so she won't feel smothered like she did growing up. Nick wants nothing more than to make Daisy happy. Unfortunately Nick has his own concerns as he discovers that the police are investigating he and Daisy following some recent shootings. There is some wonderful suspense and mystery on what is unfolding around them. We also see that the chemistry between Nick and Daisy is hotter than ever and the love they have for each other keeps growing daily. Their love scenes are steamy and romantic due largely to Nick's dirty talk. He is still so dramatic but his language is beautifully poetic, revealing his true nature not as an assassin but as an artistic soul. This book had it all, great character growth, interesting secondary characters, intrigue and hot & steamy love scenes. I think this is an amazing continuation to Nick and Daisy's story! This novella is book #2.5 in The Hitman series and is best if read in order.

A revisit with these two...

Nick and Daisy are sort of living in a bubble, a slice of their own world. Both aren’t really up on “current” pastimes or lifestyles but their world works for them. Without giving any spoilers, the best part of this book for me was how Nick starts to relate to “real” people. It will touch your heart. It should be said that this book has LOTS of sex. Really. You’ve been warned, in a good way. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

That basically sums up how I feel! All I need is Nick, Nick and more Nick. What's that Jen and Jessica? You wrote a novella about Nick and Daisy? Sure, yeah, that's cool...ALRIGHT HANDS IN THE AIR! GIVE ME THE BOOK AND NO ONE GETS HURT, I DON'T WANT TO BUT I WILL GO CRAZY EYE'S ON YOU!!! I NEED NICK!

Deep breaths...

Ok so I might have taken that too far, sorry about that ladies. I loved getting to spend more time with Nick and Daisy, and I especially liked that the book really explored how they are both adjusting to their new lives. We get both POV's which is absolutely delightful because being in Nick's head is something I find very enjoyable. The way his character is written is very unique and it isn't something that you can find in many books. And I loved how much Daisy loves Nick, you can literally feel her devotion to him, to the point where she actually considers doing something completely foreign to her nature to protect him. I definitely am hoping for more Nick and Daisy, I'm crossing my fingers that we get to see their wedding, whenever that happens down the line. Highly recommend this series to everyone who will listen!

Dear Reader;

Do you ever have moments where you think, "Seriously did I just say that? Or do that? Or step in that?" That is Leda Plett's life. If it's outrageous or inappropriate or over the line, she's probably done it. Except now that she has a daughter of her own, on her own, she's trying very hard to become a proper grown-up. It was going pretty well, too, until the neighbor's brother showed up next door.

Eric Anders has the strange effect of making Leda feel like a better, bigger, stronger person - while simultaneously making her vividly aware of every dumb move she's ever made. Because he's a really awesome guy, who really does know a lot. Which only makes it worse!

I know a bit about this feeling, having been married for over 25 years. I am a total shake-your-head dorkus some days. For some reason, those days usually occur when my guy is being particularly competent and smart. But then he does something sweet and kind to remind me that I have moments of awesomeness, too!

Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be, each of us bringing out the best in each other, while still calling us out on our less-than-stellar moments.

Leda and Eric gave me a wonderfully fun ride on the way to their happily-ever-after. I hope you enjoy it just as much!

It seems there's a theme in my books, and here it is: authenticity. Be yourself, and the rest will follow. But what if you've been living a certain way for a long time and you're not sure that the people who matter to you will still love you, once you take off the mask? It's not like you're a chain-saw murderer or anything... but perhaps you're tired of being on the PTA, or of always cooking the Thanksgiving turkey, or of not telling people that they're loading the dishwasher the wrong way. Maybe you secretly want to get a new job, go to school, go sky-diving, learn pole-dancing (in private only!) or get a tattoo... or simply say what's on your mind. And have people listen!Myself, I'm a craven coward. I don't want to hurt anyone. But I'm learning, little by little, to be good to myself. It's like the airlines say: put the oxygen on yourself first. Being our authentic selves might not be comfortable for those we love. But not being that person hurtsus. Badly.So, yes, I've had some racy pictures taken (you'll never find them.) I've got a few tattoos. And in my books, I get to live out the fantasy of breaking free into a brave new world. Trust me,the result is always worth the challenge. In books, and in real life. :)

Love’s worth more than being right.

When single mother Leda Plett – who’s doing just fine on her own, thank you very much – goes next door to retrieve her wandering pooch, she doesn’t expect to find the neighbor’s handsome brother lounging about like he owns the place. She certainly doesn’t expect him to go after the deadbeat who abandoned her. She’s not looking for a know-it-all white knight with long, lean muscles and a sexy smile. He’s hot, but she’s already been burned.

Rodeo-star turned agent Eric Anders is used to managing people, especially irresponsible males, and he can’t stand it that some jerk has left Leda high and dry. Clearly, the boots-and-sundress wearing mouthy mama needs someone on her side. He could change her life, if only she would let him. And it has nothing to do with the fact that her sparkly exterior hides a spirit that is as sweet as it is strong – and irresistible.

In fact, Leda is more mature than her years. She feels the weight of her mistakes, and wants only to make sure her daughter doesn’t suffer for them. Eric’s hot gaze makes her weak in the knees but Leda’s track record with men is as bad as it is short. Can she trust the cowboy next door?

The Cowboy Next Door - Tepid!

I don’t recall ever reading Roxanne Snopek, although feels that I should know her writings. But The Cowboy Next Door” in my opinion just did not make my heart skip a beat, shiver in anticipation or tingle me happy.

I’m really not sure what did not work for me in this book, but I get the feeling that I the story was pieced in a hurry with no proper development of characters. Granted Leda is a young and single mother, but not that young to sound immature, confused, and childlike.

Past rodeo star turned agent Eric Anders is organized, efficient, and can’t stand to see anyone being hurt or cheated of what they are entitled to in life. And in this case, he wants to help Leda get what she’s entitled from the jerk who left her pregnant.

Somehow Leda and Eric just did not click as a couple. Age has never been an issue for me, but “The Cowboy Next Door” sure did not tingle my senses or draw me into his love story with Leda. And Leda’s character really did not ignite any empathy or sympathy. The characters just lacked chemistry and that special bond, which draws a reader into their story.

If you’re looking for a funny, light-hearted, contemporary romance, look no further. The Cowboy Next Door by Roxanne Snopek is the hilarious tongue-in-cheek tale of true love found in all the wrong places. Leda, the book’s main female lead is a bubbly, potty-mouthed girl with a whole lot of spunk, and a lack of good judgment when it comes to men. Eric, is the older, ex-rodeo star cowboy living next door… and together they make one of the sweetest, puppy-love romances I’ve ever read.

To be honest, I wasn’t thrilled with the couple at first. Eric saw Leda as little more than a sexy cheerleader, barefoot and babe at her breast. He came across as a little ridiculous and dreamy considering his age and experience. It was easy to tell that in a previous life, he had probably been a little bit of a love ‘em and leave ‘em type and maybe a bit of a poetic romantic—though that was never outright stated. Despite the fact that he thought Leda was little more than a teen the first time he met her, he was ogling her assets—and it sent me on edge from the start.

Leda, on the other hand, is probably one of my favorite caricatures—and yes, I mean, caricature… not character. She had an over-the-top small-town southern charm (despite not being from the south) and let loose an array of colorful swear words that would make anyone giggle. She was bold, brassy, and full of spunk in the best ways—and she was a certifiable mamma-bear when it came down to it. A lot of bark came with the petite package that was Leda, and I loved every minute of her presence in the book. Together, Eric and Leda had a flirty banter-filled romance that was endearing and fun.

As for the technical side of things, the book was well written. As with all of Ms. Snopek’s work, the book wasn’t plagued with a ton of errors. The narrative was clean, easy-to-follow, and well placed. The romance was sizzling without being vulgar or overly flowery, and although the plot was restricted solely to the romance (which is fine.. sometimes you want a quick romance-filled read that isn’t tangled in political drama and thrilling sub-plots), the book was engaging.

The only point of contention for me was that the romance did move a little quickly near the end of the book. This isn’t a long book—I read through it in one short afternoon, so it’s hard to hold the quick pace of the narrative against it, but generally I do like my romances to simmer a little before it gets down to the stable romance part. Eric and Leda went one ONE date before they were declaring their ever-lasting love. It was still believable, after all, Leda and Eric were the type of couple that fell into ridiculously sappy love very quickly—this wasn’t out of character for them—but I would have liked things to progress a little more slowly personally.

Overall? I loved the book. It isn’t the end-all-be-all of the romance genre, but it’s a good book. If you’re looking for a heart-rending tension-filled romance, this isn’t going to be it… but if you’re looking for a quick, sunshine-filled heartwarming romance, this would be a great one for you to sink a few hours into. I’d be happy to recommend it.
