Not my favorite from this author

Lethal Consequences, the second book in Elisabeth Naughton's The Aegis Series, was just okay, in my opinion. Many others have raved over this book and the main characters, Olivia and Landon, first introduced to readers in book 1 of the series. So if you are a fan of this author and her previous Aegis series novel, then by all means purchase this book. I have read and enjoyed other novels by Ms Naughton, but her latest two books have been definite 'misses' for me.
I won't rehash the plot as other reviewers have done an excellent job of that. For me, there was way too much time spent inside each characters' head, as both Olivia and Landon ruminated over their feelings, and the reasons they should or should not have a relationship! The author stalled out the story as readers were treated to the characters' internal dialogue! Olivia came across as weak and passive in the first book. I had hopes that the author would toughen Olivia up when it came to her story with Landon. The author certainly toughened up Olivia's language, allowing her character the ability to drop the F-bomb, but that made school teacher Olivia come off more as crude and not as strong. As in the first Aegis book, book two contained page after page after page of descriptions of their sexual encounters that really just became tedious after a while.
I much preferred Ms Naughton's 'Stolen' series and 'Wait For Me', so I would recommend that readers start with those books if they are 'new' to this author.

Lethal Consequences - Fatal Love Story

The Aegis Series by Elisabeth Naughton just keeps getting bolder, deadlier and sizzling, lethal combinations to readers like me. The second book in the series "Lethal Consequences" is another adrenaline ride of danger, terror and a love that fights to the very end.
Three months after being rescued by Aegis and her sister, Olivia Wolfe can't forget Landon Miller and his protective blanket that enveloped her. From being a reserved schoolteacher, she suddenly takes off to Barcelona on a whim to be with Landon. They have kept in touch the past three months, and she cannot get him out of her system and she does want to explore that relationship with him.
Landon Miller's days as an Aegis operative are numbered, as he is headed back to DIA. The sudden appearance of Olivia at his hotel throws him for a loop. Unfortunately the circumstances lead to Olivia storming out, and from that moment on things go from bad to ugly in seconds. A past op catches up with Landon, and Olivia gets in the crosshairs of a deadly terrorist group trying to get information about bio-weapons.
And the chase is on as Landon and Olivia beat odds to keep breathing as Aegis steps in to recover them. But the danger refuses to leave them, and in the midst of life threatening situation, the spark of love and lust ignites the passion into full-blown fireworks. As they race to find the antidote to the deadly bioweapon, Landon and Olivia need to believe in the power of love to save their present to make a future with each other.
Elisabeth Naughton is a fabulous writer of romantic suspense, and "Lethal Consequences" is just another testimony of her writing prowess. Landon and Olivia make daunting partners as they battle death and an endearing couple as they succumb to the love that they have been fighting.
Fast, gritty, heart pumping and definitely lethal!!

Friends to lovers amidst lots of action and suspense…

This is the second book in the Aegis series which can be read as a standalone. That’s what this reader did and I had no problem following the references to prior events as enough information was disseminated.
Olivia Wolfe is a survivor. Having been kidnapped just for the association to her sister, the experience did not break her and the man who rescued her was impressed by the undefeated spirit that she still showed in her eyes that day. Against all the rules Landon Miller, a security operative and government agent, checked on her for months afterwards, striking up a long distance friendship, something that he comes to regret when she is placed in danger again and all because of him, a man who is not relationship material no matter how much he wishes that he were.
Living through the experience of being kidnapped, I would suspect, changes your perspective on things. You look at life differently and want to live it more than you probably did before. Olivia’s come to care for the man who rescued her and on a whim she decides to take time off from her staid teaching job and surprise him in Spain where she gets the shock of her life; he’s not alone in his hotel room and she’s interrupted his liaison. But there is more to the sexy woman in his room who wants something from Landon and now has Olivia in her sights as a means to an end.
There was lots of riveting action and suspense in this friends to lovers romance that I did enjoy. The storyline was intriguing and kept my attention, the cast of characters were interesting. I liked how the romance developed between the hero and the heroine, their banter was quite amusing at times and the feelings were genuine. Though this couple had met in the last book we were given both their internal thoughts as support for where their present feelings were coming from.
I really liked the hero, I liked his story and the fact that he wanted to be better than he was, to reach for something that he didn’t think that he deserved because of who he is and the things that he’s done, character growth is something that I love to see. He’d reached a point in his life that he needed more out of life than the cards that he was dealt, change is inevitable.
The heroine was a contradiction to me. I didn’t always like her. She was made out to be too good. She was too optimistic considering what she’d suffered through previously for her personality to be totally credible. She was naïve about many things but she showed arrogance in thinking that she knew better than trained professionals. Serious luck was on her side for it’s a wonder that she didn’t get them both killed a few times. Not to say that I didn’t like her gumption and how she fought back admirably in the situations that she found herself in, though she had a tendency to make foolish decisions without considering the consequences. Our hero had a lot to deal with. There were some religious references made that I disliked, a pet peeve of this reader and something more that made the heroine just seem too damn good to be believable.
This was the first time that I have read this author and I will check out her other works. This was a random “Read Now” find on NetGalley.
