LEARNING TO LOVE AGAIN

I am giving this book 5 Stars but it deserves so much more. I have never laughed so much or so hard when reading a book as I did with this story. I love Barclay and Molly. They are two broken people, learning to live and love again. Throw in several colorful characters, murder, drugs and the combination becomes explosive
Barclay Gray, known as “Ice Man” to his coworkers and friends, is a fireman and diver for the marine rescue unit in Clearwater and is trying to learn to live and feel again after losing a child and going through a bitter divorce. We meet Barclay at the local Walgreens purchasing douche for his three girls and this is where the fun begins.
“It's gonna take at least 2 boxes for Lola. She's big. Got wide hips. Skinny legs, though” “Make it five or six. And they have to be Massengill, don't forget. God, I don't know which girls smells worst.”
Of course, this does not set well with Molly Devon, the cashier.
“What an ass, talking about his girlfriend like that!” “Well, quit putting your nose in their hootchies.”
Molly is another lost soul, losing her mother, her dad in early stages of dementia, a broken heart and looking over her shoulder for her ex because he had become abusive. In steps the protector, Barclay when Wade, the ex, tracks Molly to Florida and attempts to kidnap her.
Can Barclay and Molly grow together and learn to laugh and love again and find their HEA? If you looking for a great read that will make you laugh, angry and pull for the hero and heroine, this is the book. A great read to start the new year. Kudos to Ms. Davis on another hit in the series. Look forward to the next book and all the colorful characters involved.

A Must Read!

Barclay Grey, is a divorced from his wife, after they lost their baby, he and his wife grieved, but Yvette is wife found comfort in another man's arms, and drugs. He works on a special unit for the fire department, where he is a diver, and knows about explosives, and how to defuse them, from his years as a Navy SEAL, his fellow fireman use to call him Ghost, as a nickname, because of the way he was able to get in and out of any location without being seen or heard, that nickname has changed since his divorce with Yvette to Ice Man. Where he once cared for everyone that lived in their small Florida community, he now does his job, almost running on instinct, and though he still cares about people, he isn't interested in having a having a woman in his life, at least not one to bring home and share a life with, he's certain he doesn't ever want to be close to another woman or to have a family.
He owns a few dogs, all females and all rescue dogs, he feels they are enough of company for him, especially since he works 48 hours straight, he has a friend named Milt that takes care of them while he is at work, he's an older man, a widower. He had a very bad childhood, and often spent time with his uncle, who owned cottages he use to rent, that's where Barclay found peace, and his unwed uncle was more like a father to him. When his uncle passed away he left him the cottages, knowing how much Barclay loved them. He made his dogs run around the grounds while he was doing some renovations on the cottages, and they got sprayed by a very unhappy skunk. He used his computer to find out what he could bath them in to get rid of the smell on them, especially before bedtime, where they all slept with him, he found a certain female hygiene product worked and went into the nearest pharmacy before it closed to get what he needed.
Molly's and her father were in Florida because her passed away three months earlier, her car was hit by a tractor trailer and she died instantly, her wishes were to have her ashes spread on the beach where she and her husband spent their honey moon and always went to on their vacation, bringing Molly with them. Molly had their own web design site business, and was engaged to a man named Wade, who was physically and verbally abusive to her recently, but the last straw came when she found him bed with who was suppose to be her maid of honor. Molly and her dad lived in the same home in Colorado as when her mother was alive, in Colorado. To make matters worse, soon after her mother passed away, her father was diagnosed with early dementia, his mental health was slowly on the decline. When they reached Florida from Colorado, he lost his wallet, Molly's laptop, which would have enabled her to continue her work as a web site designer, and all of his credit cards.She now work in large chain pharmacy, which helped paid some of the expense while they were in Florida, but wouldn't last for long with her father needing his medication.
Barclay ran into the pharmacy sounding arrogant and barking at Molly at how awful the "girls" smelled that he was going to sleep with that night, and Molly was disgusted when he asked where the feminine hygiene products were that he needed. She was appalled at the number of these products he needed, it sound as though he was bragging to her, but once he found and paid for what he needed, he headed for the door, only to turn around, and ask Molly where the dog treats were. She looked at him in astonishment when she repeated his request, and it was then he explained the "girls" were his dogs, who needed a bath, due to the skunk spray on them. He noticed how jumpy she was at the sound of the any customers walking in, and knew there had to be more that was going on with her, and for some reason he found himself drawn to her, and asked her to have coffee with him after work, which was in a short while, he surprised himself asking her, and even more surprised to find himself physically attracted to her. She told him no, because she didn't know him,but it was also because she had to see how her father was doing, though she didn't tell him that part, she didn't feel he was any of his business. He told her he would be there waiting if she changed her mind.
On her way home, which she walked because it wasn't far from her job at the pharmacy she had to pass the coffee shop, it started pouring outside, and she noticed an SUV that looked suspiciously like Wade's, but she tried to shrug it off, as it turned out she was right. Wade jumped out of the SUV and called her name, and she quickened her pace to get away from him, but he easily caught up to her, and tied her wrists with rope and started beating her. Barclay noticed the commotion going on outside, he did see Molly and thought that she changed her mnd and was going to meet him for coffee after all, but what he saw instead, horrified him, and he ran to Molly's rescue. He beat Wade up, and carried Molly to the coffee shop to get her cleaned up, she was bleeding, and to make sure she didn't need to go the hospital.
Vonnie Davis tells this story with the natural wit she possesses, and at times this book had me laughing so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes. If there is one regret I have, it's that I can only give it 5 stars, when it really deserves so much more. This book is the second book in a series, but there are no cliffhangers in the first or in this second addition. I'm sure you will want to read the whole series, I didn't give away any spoilers, all wrote you will find out in the first 2 chapters, but it's full of twists and suspense, I urge you to read this book, I promise you won't be disappointed!
