What I Expected
By Stephen McKenzie
I received a free copy of this novel from Revell for my honest review. To begin with, as a male reader this is my first Romance/Suspense novel ever. I enjoyed reading the book as a whole, but I can’t say that the romantic conversations kept me awake throughout the read, although it is a fast-paced read. The plot begins with an undercover double-agent being found out, having his cover blown. This caught my attention immediately since other similar plotlines would sandwich this particular plot between the agent’s successful career and his probable death after being found out. The characters are vividly described and the relationships are very realistic. As a male reader, the hardest thing for me to relate to was how quickly the romantic relationship within this novel progresses; even more, how they learn to undoubtedly trust each other despite having known each other for only a few days. As an undercover agent, it seems like he would have not let his guard down so easily, but then again, it is a romantic suspense novel. My overall rating for this book would be a 3 (out of 5 stars). While there were many conversations that would never have proceeded from a man’s mouth, the plotline and characters definitely redeemed the novel for me. To address that last point, it seems like the conversations are all very deep and thought through, whereas realistic conversations (particularly in romantic relationships) would not carry on with such broad vocabulary and deep topics – sometimes stirring things up between characters without much emotional probing. Like I said, the relationship develops too quickly for me, and therefore, the conversations that are exchanged between the two main characters are simply unrealistic. I will make mention of the religious nature of the book: while it is highly unlikely that nearly all the main characters that cross paths would share the same depth of religious conviction and spirituality, it is a nice read for those who prefer a non-worldly novel, focusing on how a relationship will affect a particular character’s walk with the Lord. Thus, I will leave on a positive note since I kept coming back for more, always wondering how the plot would turn next, enjoying nearly every minute until the very end.

Reading this novel seriously felt like watching a movie; I don’t even feel as though I actually read a book!
By B&C Arroyo
THOUGHTS:
// If I may be so bold, reading this novel seriously felt like watching a movie; I don’t even feel as though I actually read a book! Seriously, my mind is blown away right now
// Lisa Harris weaves conflict, betrayal, loss, faith, agony, willpower, integrity and triumph into his epic novel. The emotions she captures behind her writing is exceptional; she anchors you on a hope and faith that you are familiar with. Needless to say, her expertise and passion for justice, mystery and crime really makes her who stand out
// The suspense and the romance were well-developed within the plot; I cried, I laughed, I muttered discontentedly, I was both captivated and entertained!
// The introduction in itself is fraught with tension, and from there on the pulse pounding never stops; this is in all truth, the product of an author at the top of her game
// Though read through a third-person narration, the characters truly color and carry the narrative. In other words, the author doesn’t overwhelm the prose with her presence; this to me is a huge deal!
// The narrative, as the title suggests, follows the story of Michael Hunt, an undercover cop, whose scheme for concealment is blown and is now on the run from both the Cartel and government officials. There’s more though, Michael is conveniently rescued by the daughter of the city’s cartel kingpin, as well as her brother and the three take you on a thrilling ride of mystery, drama, romance and hidden truths
// It is also a story that embodies honor, love, grace, forgiveness, understanding, resolve; it hammers on real life pressing issues and predicaments, and further reminds us that when life hurls uncertainties at us, the most important aspect in life, is family
// I wholeheartedly and without reservations enjoyed this book; I enthusiastically recommend this series! A fantastic conclusion to a suspenseful, emotional and dramatic prose
3 THINGS I LIKED:
+ From a plotting perspective, I absolutely loved how the narrative is a complex web of betrayal and deception. The unpredictable twists and turns, the grim and shocking revelations, the affecting and thought-provoking confrontations and conflicts all came together so well and further increased the intensity of the storyline; not once was there a dull moment. Even more, Lisa Harris concludes each chapter with a climatic turn of events that makes it extremely difficult to put the book down; I was fully enraptured to say the least
+ Oliva Hamilton and Michael Hunt make for a phenomenal double act. The pacing of their romantic rapport, as well as their subplot narratives establish a depth that makes you genuinely care for them. The moments that resonate the most for me, are the ones that displayed their sense of vulnerability in their timorous step to spill the details of their plight, their fears, their needs, and when considering their circumstances alone, their obligation to confide in one another; it was challenging and you feel their emotional strife in doing so! It just goes to show how vulnerability is the glue that holds relationships together
+ While the trope of the novel is one that revolves around crime and corruption, I so appreciated the approach in which Lisa Harris was able to deliver a solid plot line without the typical profanities and vulgarities that I inevitably stumble upon in genres such as this one. That’s not to say that the prose was particularly lackluster; no in fact, Lisa Harris was able to pen street rhetoric that was authentic in a readable and engaging way
1 THINGS I DID NOT LIKE:
- There were a few scenes that came across as, “too fluky and convenient” but to me, this is a minor flaw to an otherwise amazing book!

this series is a MUST read
By Bekah @ WillBakeforBooks
For his family and friends, Michael Hunt has been dead for the past eight months. What they don’t know is that he’s very much alive—and in serious trouble. Michael got in over his head when his undercover assignment involving the cartel accidentally forced him to fake his death. When his cover is blow, he’s consequently tortured by hit men and awaits his death…for real this time. Rescued by Olivia and Ivan Hamilton—the daughter and son of the man who wants to kill him—Michael has no other choice but to trust them as they run for their lives.
Lisa Harris has done it again—brought a story to life in the most exciting of ways. Just like with the previous books in this series, Hidden Agenda had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It’s one of those books where you just simply sit back and read in one sitting, because it’s impossible to stop turning the pages. The characters were genuine and their faith inspirational. And while I usually don’t like it when a story only spans such a short period of time, Harris always seems to make it work for the better. I loved Michael’s story just as much as Avery and Emily’s, and enjoyed getting updated on their lives as well. Speaking of, I really enjoy family-centered series like this one where each book tells another member’s story. The Hunt sibling’s relationships really reminded me of much-loved series such as Dani Pettrey’s Alaskan Courage and Dee Henderson’s O’Malley series. In my opinion, Hidden Agenda has it all.
After finishing this book, I can safely say that Harris has become one of my favorite authors of this genre. If you enjoy non-stop action, sweet romance, palpable suspense, and thrilling twist and turns then you need to try Hidden Agenda and the Southern Crimes series!
