Cheater + Idiot = Poet

I admit I had high expectations for this book after reading the rest of the series. From reading the 4 or 5 star reviews I expected an epic love story of two lovers torn apart by tragedy. Instead, I got the tale of a devoted heroine torn apart by the stupid idiot that she loved-- a/k/a Poet the "hero".
Let me be clear for all the fangirls who are claiming the bad reviews are just because we didn't like the outcome, I am giving this a low review because I did not believe the romance or the story. Everything was surface only with extreme reactions and a decades long conflict between two characters that is resolved in a rush as the story is ending.
****SPOILERS**
All of the heartache and tragedy was created by Poet's stupidity. Had he not betrayed the "love" of his life by stupidly sleeping with another woman and even more idiotically getting her pregnant, Amy would not have been left in Ireland and would not have been tortured by the ow's fiancé. When idiot a/k/a Poet sees Amy again, her nonspeaking, shaved head and damaged fingers do not clue him in that she suffered any tragedy, he just thinks she willingly betrayed him. Despite his betrayal and the pregnant ow that he expected Amy to forgive, this gem of a guy spits on her face and calls her disgusting names. Then leaves her and plays house with the ow and their baby for close to a decade And wears the ow's ring despite being married to Amy. The heroine and hero are apart for most of this book and frankly I wish it had stayed that way. POET is an idiot loser who deserved nothing. He never fought for Amy. He never groveled. Love was just a word to him, his actions never showed any actual emotion. That is why I am so shocked by all the great reviews. I don't see any great love or devotion from Poet, just lip service. Amy deserved a real hero not a spineless cheater. I did not believe after everything that she would have forgiven and taken him back so easily.

Too much for me

When I read a book, I want to fall in love with the characters. I need to connect to them. I want to feel their loyalty and love for one another. I want positive feelings for the hero and heroine.
In this book, I only had strong positive feelings for one character. One hint who it's not. Patrick..... I really hate you. There was not a single redeeming quality about him that I liked.
I hate him so much that it makes this book a story I really wish I could unread. His decisions and actions..... I just am at a loss for words. I just don't/can't understand.......
Amy is a much stronger person than I am. She was the only positive thing in the book besides Peg that I did like. Her resilience and strength were incredible from the beginning to the very end of the book.
I need to just go back in my happy place and reread Grease and Calliope's book and try to forget about this one.

So disappointed

I wish I could UNREAD this book and go back to loving Poet. I love romance and HEA. I get that a good story has conflict. I just can't stand the complete and total devastation of one character over and over. Reality is hard enough. I don't need to read it on my spare time. Amy suffered excessively. I got tired of Poet's words of love and devotion in contrast to his actions of abandonment and apathy. The alpha that I look for in MC books is a romance hero who loves the heroine against all odds. Fights for her and never gives up. I hate that Poet had a life with another woman, wore her ring as if no consequence, while still married to Amy. No devotion, just words. Amy just lived half a life. I sobbed through most of the book, sticking to it with the belief that it would soon get better. It did, 25 years later, in the last few pages. All that suffering and it was over. Kaput. No fist in the air. Nothing learned. No sense of completeness. Just horrible.
When I finished this book last night I wasn't going to write a review because I had nothing good to say. However, this book ruined me. I trudged through work today not understanding my depression. A dark cloud over me all day. Remains of this book, utter destruction. Not why I read.
