Great start to the series

I love a good coming out story, especially one that captures the highs and lows with sensitivity and honesty. In Moment of Impact, Karen Stivali gives us an erotic tale of first love and sexual awakening that hits that mark.
When college roommates Collin and Tanner finally give into their explosive attraction to each other, everything is just wonderful behind the closed doors of their dorm room. Collin has shaken off the guilt inflicted by his ultra-conservative mother and has come out to Tanner, but when it comes to going public with their relationship, things get tense between them. Tanner is more comfortable with his sexuality and it becomes a source of conflict for the couple.
But when an accident puts everything in a different perspective for Collin, he makes the decision to come out, with some very serious and hurtful consequences.
Collin and Tanner are passionate and provocative, while Collin is sometimes naive, sweet and scared all at the same time. These emotional qualities made both characters interesting to me. Oh, and did I mention they are so hot, hot, hot together?
I'm looking forward to seeing where their relationship goes in the next installment, now that Collin will be dealing with the aftermath of coming out and the sometimes roller coaster ride of being in a relationship.
Great start. Looking forward to the second book in the series.

Very sexy, but also emotional

Collin is a "closeted gay" man who has a secret crush on his roommate, Tanner. They are both juniors in college and have been friends for two years. Collin feels really awful about his sexual attraction, not only because he doesn't believe Tanner would welcome his interest; Collin was raised by his uber-conservative, uber-Catholic mother to believe all sex (even self-love) was bad, unless it was sanctioned by marriage. And homosexual marriage does not qualify.
Tanner has a regular Monday night hook-up with a female friend, Wendy, and Collin usually pretends he's asleep so he can hear Tanner have sex. One Monday night Tanner comes home alone and Collin watches him pleasure himself--with unexpected--but wonderful--results. Turns out Tanner is bisexual, and has a crush on Collin.
This confession opens a new, scary chapter in Collin's life--one where he has all the best of love...which he must hide from everyone around him. Tanner isn't out at school, but he's open to the possibility. Colin knows what will happen if he comes out--his mother will disown him. As Collin and Tanner become closer, however, it becomes more and more difficult to keep their secret--and doing so may just cost Collin the man he truly loves.
This book is equal parts hot man lovin' and delicious feels. The pace is brisk, and the sex is copious. And scorching. Collin is a complete novice, and enthralled by Tanner's openness and experience. They are a good match for each other, and conscientious of each other. Their main conflict, remaining closeted, is a big hurdle which is well managed.
I truly enjoyed, and had my heart engaged from page one.

This is the story of Collin and Tanner, college roommates. The story is told in the first-person, from Collin’s perspective. As well as the central romance, the book tells the story of Collin’s coming out, his relationship with his religious family, his emerging sexuality and his struggle to accept himself and trust others.
This book falls into the genre of New Adult - but a better term might be emerging adult. At the start of the book, Collin is still very entangled with his mother’s beliefs and rules. He doesn’t start to think for himself until Tanner pushes him. In this story, readers watch Collin start to lose his fear and begin to establish himself as his own adult.
Tanner is very different. His bohemian parents accept and encourage him - but they are both noticeably absent from his life as a young adult. While Collin is strangled by family ties, Tanner seems completely untethered to his own family.
The relationship starts slow and builds gently through the story. Most of the time it is believable and the two main characters are genuinely likeable. The supporting characters never move beyond stereotype which is a bit of a let down.
I was put off by a formatting error in this book. Numbers randomly appear and the text is often displaced around each number. In places, it was hard to read around the interruptions.
I am also annoyed that this story has been broken into two separate books when the whole story is only the length of a short novel. Whenever an author does this, it feels like a cash-grab at the expense of readers.
This is a simple New Adult romance. It is an easy read with likeable characters.
