Fast-Paced Regency Romp Filled with Action & Adventure
By Humarock Beachwalker
The Viscount of Vice isthe the first novel in Shana Galen's new Covent Garden cubs series. The novella is a fast-paced regency romp filled with adventure and passion!

Just loved the opening paragraph:

He was going to hell. Shame, Flynn thought , dangling from a third-floor window of a town house in exclusive Grosvernor Square.
Moisture gathered on his fingers, and his hand slipped. He could not hold on much longer. Perhaps his death was for the best.
Still, it seemed harsh even for one such as Beelzebub to claim him when he was hanging naked from a window of one of the most prestigious addresses in Mayfair.
Flynn!" A woman's voice hissed. His name was Henry Flynn, and he was the new Lord Chesham, but everyone called him Flynn when he wasn't called something far less complimentary.

Who could resist a story which opens with the hero dangling naked off a balcony ?? Can you imagine? I absolutely loved the first chapter of this novella as it was well-written and laugh -out -loud funny. I couldn't help falling for the novella's hero ; the charming scoundrel Flynn.

Ms. Galen's hero, heroine and their adventures are well -written and the storyline conflict is credible. Flynn meets with Sir Brooks Derring. Derring has some important information for Flynn and the two men head towards the town of Bath. Flynn meets and dances with Lady Emma Talbot, at an assembly in Bath. The character of Emma resonated with me. She's not the average society miss looking to marry a wealthy nobleman. She's independent and enjoys volunteering at the hospital. Emma has been love with Flynn for years. Flynn might be in lust with Emma but he's afraid of Emma's brother, the powerful Duke of Ravenscroft-- the hero from the author's book Sapphires Are An Earl's Best friend.

The Viscount of Vice provides a great transition to Ms. Galen's new Covent Garden Cubs series. The novella explores several social issues and introduces the new series villain. I read the novella in one sitting. It held my interest and I am looking forward to the first book in the series Earl's Just Want to Have Fun

An amazing start to a new series
By Kiltsandswords
I recently read the first book in this new Covenant Gardens series by Shana Galen, so reading this novella was really amazing because it provides some background on Sir Brook’s adventures. I love every word Shana Galen puts on a page and this book was no exception. Sometimes novella’s are like an appetizer. They are exciting and delicious, but you still want your main course. This novella was like a full course meal. When I finished the book I didn’t feel like anything was missing. The plot was well developed, there was adventure and mystery and a very well explored romance.
Emma has longed for the Viscount of Vice, Flynn since she first met him as a sixteen year old girl. He was out of her league then, but since turning eighteen and having her first season, she has high hopes that their paths will cross. I really liked the character Emma. She isn’t flighty or flirty, she has substance to her character and is a woman who knows what her heart wants.
Flynn was a great character as well. He has reveled in being the Viscount of Vice for years, yet the act is wearing on him. He definitely noticed Emma when they first met, but even with the warning of her brother the Duke, he still wanted her. Fast forward two years and he is trying his hardest not to be the unscrupulous man society has him pegged for. He sees that Emma is a lovely young woman and he doesn’t want to trifle with her in a way that would leave her ruined. Not only is she a siren to him, she possesses great compassion and concern for others.
The mystery element of the book sweeps both Emma and Flynn into a dramatic rescue gone wrong in the town of Bath. It was exciting to have the setting away from London and to have something nefarious happen in the sleepy town known for restorative practises. Flynn has been brought to Bath to find and reunite with his long lost younger brother, found by Sir Brooks. His brother Matthew has been part of a gang of thieves and Matthew is an opium addict. Reuniting with Matthew is much harder than Flynn anticipated and that is where the adventure and mystery take over. It’s an exciting ride that has Emma and Flynn alternating between running for their lives to exploring what is between them.
This novella is a fabulous read. It can be read before starting the new Covenant Gardens series or as a stand alone. Once again, Shana Galen proves that she is an outstanding author. Even with a novella, she has the reader entranced in the story and feeling very satisfied with the ending.

4.5 Star rating! Wonderful as always.

I received an ARC from Net Galley for an honest review. Since I have been a fan of Shana Galen’s for several years, I looked forward to reading Viscount of Vice with great anticipation. Again, as always, Ms. Galen did not disappoint me. I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful tale of attraction, amidst mayhem and chaos. This great story has a bit of everything as this author’s books tend to have, laughter, high adventure and plenty of passion.

As a reader, I greatly appreciate the fact that I can always count on Shana Galen to deliver a book consistent with her usual style. Now I do not mean her stories are predictable in the least, just that I know what type of book it will be, in the sense that it will involve intrigue and danger with a fulfilling ending.

Flynn, as all his friends call him, even though he has recently become Viscount Chesham, is a swashbuckling kind of hero with a bit of the bad boy thrown in. He is fun-loving, yet at times a bit vulnerable. This is the kind of hero, Ms. Galen writes so well. From the first kiss to the culmination of their love, I could feel the passion between the hero and the heroine. Flynn yearns for Lady Emma, but knows he does not deserve her, having lived a life of debauchery and recklessness.

From the first moment he meets her, when she is still a young lady, barely sixteen, he is drawn to her as a moth to a flame, but he stays away. After all, he is nine years older and has no business being attracted to her. When he meets her two years later, he is immediately captivated by her beauty and strong will, which is apparent from their first encounter.

Emma has loved Flynn from the first moment she saw him at her brother’s wedding, judging all men by him and finding them lacking, during her first season. When Flynn flirts with her, but then withdraws, she follows him and accepts his challenge of a kiss. She is lost from that first brush of his lips. Even though she initiated the kiss, he sweeps her up in his arms and takes over, causing her desire to soar. Their embrace is interrupted and thus starts the high adventure of the story. Will the budding flames of attraction grow as they meet the danger that awaits them, or will it flicker out when reality comes crashing down?

As is the norm with Ms. Galen’s books, I was drawn into the story from the first page and remained that way until the last page. I know this is a short story, but I would have liked to see a bit more plot development. Nonetheless, a delightful read with a satisfying HEA at the end. To make it more believable, she includes a glimpse of their life a couple months after their marriage. I do wonder if she will do a spin-off for Flynn’s brother. I think his story would make another excellent book, so much potential is there.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to read this intriguing little gem of a story and look forward to the next adventure Ms. Galen takes me on. If you enjoy stories that are light-hearted with lots of excitement set in the Regency period, then this is one you will not want to miss. Happy reading!
